When your work relies on creativity—it can be a lot of pressure. Fortunately, we have a magic pencil. Some might call it a process, but since my studio is all about packaging the fun, I prefer to credit my magic pencil. 

We begin projects with the best idea-generator of all—a gigantic brainstorm. The magic pencil helps channel our creativity onto paper. I have come to look at my pencil as having special, superhero-type powers. It’s powers include: 

• Drawing out creative ideas hidden deep in our brains
• Generating ideas at the speed of light
• Fighting against the wicked, blank sheet of paper
• Lifting pressure and putting awesome ideas in its place

I give a lot of credit to the magic pencil, but it’s part of an important creative routine that removes potential creative blocks. Nothing can be more paralyzing than a blank sheet of paper (or computer screen). 

If you ever struggle to find a creative idea—try what works for us: 

Grab your drawing pad, your magic pencil, and a timer.  

Set your timer for 40 minutes, and let the pencil guide you through word lists, ideas and loose sketches. Work fast and furious—do not stop to question the pencil’s ideas! When the timer buzzes, you’ll be in a far better place than where you started.
